Katharine House café celebrates one year anniversary
9 October 2025
The hospice’s Garden Café opened in October 2024, following funding and renovation from the team at Tesco Banbury. With an onsite catering team, the café allows visitors and staff to enjoy freshly cooked food and sweet treats throughout the day, alongside offering a selection of hot and cold drinks.
Since then, it has served 1,148 pieces of cake, 812 sandwiches, 683 paninis, 658 baked potatoes, 500 bowls of soup and 394 omelettes as well as various other items. The sales of these goodies go directly towards funding the vital work at the hospice itself.
Catering Manager, Helen Sammons, said, “The Garden Café has been going from strength to strength and it’s been wonderful to have this warm and welcoming space for patients, visitors and staff to enjoy.
“We’ve received lots of positive feedback on our menu and continue to source ingredients as locally as we can, including from our own kitchen garden! All our dishes are freshly prepared and we can cater for hospice events too. This year, we provided refreshments for almost 500 people at our Rose to Remember event in June. We’re really proud of the fact that the money raised goes straight back into the hospice to help us continue to support patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families.”
To celebrate the café’s one-year anniversary, the catering team made freshly baked cookies and a birthday cake for staff and visitors to enjoy. Although the Garden Café is not open to the public, it is open to all patients, visitors and staff at Katharine House Hospice.
