Volunteer opportunities

Charity trustees

We’re looking to appoint new trustees with expertise in retail, legal and clinical areas. Prior experience of trusteeship is desirable.

About Katharine House

Katharine House Hospice provides specialist palliative care for adults with life-limiting conditions, which is delivered in the hospice Inpatient Unit and in the community across Oxfordshire and south Northamptonshire.

Over the last 30 years, we have been privileged to care for so many people in our local community and we are working tirelessly to ensure we can continue to provide this to everyone who needs us in the future.

Having partnered in 2021 with the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH), we are working together to maintain and improve services for adults affected by life-limiting illnesses – ensuring that the right care is in place at the right time for those who need it.

Future plans for our hospice

Over the coming years, the need for high-quality palliative care will increase, and by aligning what we need to achieve with OUH, we are establishing the strongest possible platform for end-of-life care for the local community.

By working in partnership with OUH, we will also make the best use of our funds and direct these to where they are needed most – meeting the needs of our community.

What being a trustee would entail

Trustees at Katharine House Hospice play a vital role in governing the charity, bringing their professional knowledge and experience to support the Senior Leadership Team  to strengthen and grow the charity.

Due to a number of current trustees coming to the end of their terms in office, we are currently looking for trustees to join our Board with the following expertise:

  • clinical
  • retail
  • legal
  • fundraising with local networks and a willingness to introduce the hospice to those networks.

Our Board meetings take place quarterly, as do our sub-committee meetings, which include:

  • Finance, Audit and Risk
  • Income Generation
  • General Management

We expect the time commitment to be one to two days per month inclusive of meetings, our annual trustee away day, reading and preparation for meetings and other ad hoc activities. Our trustee positions are un-remunerated, but reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. Prior experience of trusteeship is desirable.
