Volunteer opportunities

Patient drivers

Do you love driving and have a compassionate nature? Help our patients get to and from the hospice.

The role

We are looking for a number of responsible volunteer hospice drivers to transport patients who are using the hospice facilities.

You’ll pick up patients in your own car from their home (our catchment area is North Oxfordshire or South Northamptonshire) and bring them into the hospice for appointments or to spend the day with us.

You will then take the patient home again (if this is for an outpatient appointment, you can wait at the hospice for the return journey). You’ll need to have a full and clean driving licence and be able to help someone in and out of the car if needed. You will receive mobility and wheelchair training.

Most of all you need to be friendly and able to put our patients at ease as they travel with you.

Opportunities to drive are Monday to Friday during office hours with a particular need on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Ward drivers: Our volunteer drivers are an important part of our care. Patients who stay on our inpatient ward often find it difficult to get to and from the hospice and rely on volunteer drivers to take them to hospital appointments or back home when they’re discharged. We’re looking for people who own a car who have spare time to collect and deliver passengers, their families, staff and equipment, from a range of different places and appointments as required. Find out more on our volunteer ward drivers page.
